Homing enquiry

To send us an enquiry about rehoming one or more of our dogs, please use the Homing Enquiry form below to tell us a bit about yourself and any key details about your home situation, e.g. any children, other pets, flat or house etc. Then simply add your details and hit 'Send'.

A member of the GRWE rehoming team will contact you to discuss your enquiry. Please be patient and remember that we are all volunteers. Thank you!

The dogs shown here are a selection of the many dogs in our care at any one time across England & Wales. The dogs available for rehoming change on a daily basis and, while we try to keep our website as up to date as possible, the specific dogs shown may already have found their new home.

Please note that our helpline operators are not able to provide more information about individual dogs or where they are kennelled but will act as a referral service, forwarding your details to the relevant rehoming officer who will endeavour to get in touch with you within 48 hours.

We assess all our dogs carefully and aim to give as much information about them as we can. Please give a thought to offering a home to a boy dog, especially the black ones - they are just as wonderful and trainable as the girls!

Please may we also request that when enquiring about a dog, you provide us with a landline number whenever possible to help reduce uneccesary strain on the charity's resources. Thank you in advance.

What a gem Erin is. A beautiful small lurcher girl - she is desperate to get herself settled in with her own family. Why is she still waiting? Erin moved into foster over a month ago now - here is what her foster home say...

Erin is house trained, quiet, except when she and our 4yr old greyhound are play bowing and racing about, lovely condition, loves her round bed with a duvet in it. Enjoys her food but would snuffle their food if given the chance but that is easing off now she knows there's plenty for them all. Erin hasn't tried to go upstairs, is happy to play or sleep, has been good when I've left her with one of our dogs while walking the other two. My neighbour didn't hear anything. She gets on with our three greyhounds, all sitting near to each other to eat their treats.

Erin has been fine with people, has met a good mixture of dogs, all shapes and sizes with no problems. Erin loves her walks but is a little bit too eager to be at the end of the lead to start off with but that will get better once in a home. I think she'd enjoy going to training as she's a bright little soul and is very receptive.

It's upsetting to find a canny little dog like this who offers so much, with more to come, whose been overlooked in kennels for over a year. I do hope we get some enquires soon because she'd fit into any situation but with another dog would be great for company as she's spent so much time with them around her. She has been "cat assessed" and can't live with one but doesn't go mad when we see one in the street. She is loves to have her tummy rubbed and turns over to tell you. She seems so well adjusted and friendly.

Erin is about 23 inches from her shoulders down her spine to the top of her tail and approx 22 inches tall, neck measurement for lurcher collar is 12 inches

Featured dog - Almond (aka Honey)

Almond (aka Honey)
Almond (aka Honey)
Almond (aka Honey)

Honey is a delightful lurcher girl who adores the company of humans. Her foster carer describes her as a real “cuddle monster”.

There are five other dogs in Honey’s foster home and whilst she gets on with all of them she can get over excitable at times which some of them don’t appreciate.

We feel Honey will be best in a home with just one other dog that she can play around with to her hearts content. She could also be an only dog if someone was with her much of the time.

Honey loves to keep busy, "helping" with the gardening and mowing, she will keep herself amused playing with her favourite squashy football or very tatty raggy toy. At the end of the day she loves nothing better than cuddling up to her canine friends or snuggling up to you in an armchair.

Although she is fine with children, due to her exuberant behaviour, she would not be suitable to live with very young children.

Honey can be rather noisy when she meets other dogs out walking - she is fine at close quarters but does get excited when she sees dogs in the middle distance especially if they are running loose, she is improving - slowly!

If you are looking for a young lurcher girl with oodles of personality who will repay your kindness threefold, then this lovely girl is the one for you. Sighthound experience would be preferable. She is about two and a half years old; has been with us for too long and needs to be settled in a permanent home she can call her own.

Featured dog - Billy

Billy
Billy
Billy

Billy is the most handsome man about town uprightand elegant in his black DJ and white shirt with one raffishly torn ear and a little bit off staffie in his "pedigree". He is loving, friendly, bouncy and clever. In fact a really smart guy all round.

Before coming to GRWE shockingly Billy had been in a pound for 10 months and had experienced isolation and lack of socialisation. But has that held him back? No.

Only three years old he immediately set about finding out what he had to learn to find himself his forever home. He has been like a sponge, learning clicker training, a little bit of agility and how to conduct himself in town.

He is strong on the lead but already his lead work is hugely improved and he just gets better and better. When he came to us in October putting his lead and harness on was like doing two rounds in the wrestling ring. Now he is one of the easiest dogs in kennels to prepare for his walks. We have taken him out and about to all sorts of events and he has loved it. Billy would love to be with active people who know all about dogs and who would involve him in their lives.

I take my hat off to this dog. He so wants to co-operate and learn and do well for his handlers. Are you the the people who could take him forwards and help him realise his dream of being Mr Perfect?

Please spare a moment to consider our Lovely Billy.

Everything Billy sees he wants to share with you and to learn from you. Billy is just so full of fun and eager to please. It has been a pleasure to help him on his journey, we all hope that someone will spot his potential. Looking at life through Billy's eyes is all about fun and adventures. He is the only dog I know who can make me stop and pause to see life through his eyes.

He loves his home comforts and a spot of massage too. Billy is the best !

Livvie

Livvie
Livvie
Livvie

Livvie is a lovely 2 year old blue greyhound. She is timid around new people but is very loyal and devoted when she learns to trust people.

Livvie is very laid back and has a sweet nature. She loves to lie on her sofa and have her tummy rubbed, chase soft toys around the room and chew sponges!

She sleeps through the night and can be left for 4-5 hours with no problems. She’s also house trained (will ask to be let out) and doesn’t steal food.

She can get easily spooked by people and noises outside, so walks can sometimes be very short. However, she has previously lived with other dogs and would happily go for walks with them so probably having a more confident dog for company would be good for her.

Livvie would be best suited to an experienced dog owner who could spend some time socializing we are looking, Livvie will be most comfortable in an adult home with a steady routine for her to gain confidence.

please get in touch if you can help this beautiful girl move on and enjoy her life.

Sally

Sally
Sally
Sally

Meet Sally, possibly the happiest and friendliest little dog in the country, maybe even the world!.

Sally is a petite, very pretty one year old lurcher who came over to us from Ireland, so we don't know much about her. She is such a friendly and exuberant girl who in her short life has not experienced much time outside kennels. She would greatly benefit from a family home with another dog to learn from, and more importantly to play with. She loves other dogs, people, going for walks, in fact she just loves life!
She is still a puppy and due to spending much of her short life in kennels she will require some basic training and discipline. She is an intelligent girl who is eager to please, so training her should be fun and easy! She does get a little over excited at times, but don't forget she is just a baby! She is a super little dog who really deserves to know that there is so much more to life than kennels.

Spooky - cat trainable
Spooky - cat trainable

Spooky is a stunning young greyhound boy who really cant be bothered to run anymore, Spooky is only two years old and has had a few races but his heart isnt really in it - and he is quite a lazy boy - he would rather be eating. Or asleep!

Spooky is very laid back, quite quiet really and not a great character! but all the basics are there and well he will shine once he settles in and gets to know you..
Spooky is very biddable and gets on fine with other dogs, both sexes and all sizes. Spooky spent the weekend in a foster home with cats with no bother.

Spooky is going to be a lovely dog to own and he should slot smoothly into many types of homes so if you are tempted please get in touch to tell us a bit about yourselves and why you think you are the home for Spooky...

Rudy

Rudy
Rudy
Rudy

Rudy is a stunning young greyhound, who is able to pose beautifully and show his good side with ease. He is just 2 years old. He has a nose for treats and loves nothing more than popping his nose into pockets in order to sniff out goodies.

He needs a home that will help him put on a bit of weight now that his racing days are over, a totally stunning tuxedo boy! Rudy can be a little nervous in situations he is unfamiliar with, but with gentle encouragement he soon relaxes. We think he would love a home with another dog to show him the ropes and help him build his confidence.

Rudy's markings are beautiful as is his temperament; he wont be waiting long, and we think he knows it. Look into those eyes, how can you possibly resist?

Scrappy

Scrappy
Scrappy
Scrappy

Scrappy is a lovely 8 year old deaf greyhound, he is having to come back to GRWE for rehoming as his owners are moving and are not able to take him with them.

Scrappy does know a few hand signals and likes to know where you are when he is off lead. We have rehomed several deaf hounds over the years so can offer additional advice with regard to training using hand signals if needed. So please don't let this stop you from asking us about Scrappy. What he lacks in hearing he more than makes up for in personality and his zest for life.

Scrappy has lived in a home since he was 8 months old so is used to his home comforts and the routine of living in a home.

Scrappy's favourite things are...........
Running.
Sleeping in front of the fire or in a sunny place.
Pigs Ears

Scrappy would like a new home where his new owners are going to be able to give him a safe place to run off lead, somewhere comfy to sleep, a place in the sun to snooze
and a pigs ear from time to time. A pretty short list really.

As well as the above we would like Scrappy's new owners to have another dog for company as he has lived with other dogs before. He could live with older children.

Lolly

Lolly
Lolly
Lolly

Lolly is a Saluki /Whippet cross, about 25 inches tall at the shoulder and is thought to be around 5 years old. She is currently in foster with two greyhounds and a German Shepherd, whilst she tolerates the greys, she has difficulty accepting the GSD and we think she will probably need to be homed as an only dog.

Lolly is friendly when meeting new people and dogs but can be timid and has clearly been mistreated in the past. Ideally she needs a really patient, dedicated and experienced owner who understands the special needs of hounds. This will give her the confidence to become the loving, playful girl that she really is - she so wants to please.

Lolly is doing well with her basic obedience training - she sits, lies down
when asked and walks beautifully on lead. Her recall in the garden is good but may need working on before she can go off lead on walks.

A quiet, knowledgeable home with someone around most of the time - no cats or livestock - and a good garden would be perfect for this beautiful girl. Ahhhh she is so VERY SPECIAL

Johnny THE PERFECT greyhound!

Johnny THE PERFECT greyhound!
Johnny THE PERFECT greyhound!

Johnny is such a special boy and is really perfect in every way. Not only is he incredibly handsome but his idea of heaven is to be hugged, cuddled, loved and adored all day long. He loves people and will greet everyone who comes to our house like a long lost friend. Nothing phases this very special boy and he has walked in extremely busy areas with trucks and lorries zooming by without even blinking an eye. He walks beautifully on the lead and trots alongside you so elegantly and proud to be at your side. He is not bothered about other dogs and is not really interested in the two lurchers who he is currently residing with. Johnny has been left for long periods with full run of the house and he has been completely clean and totally non destructive too.

I think that Johnny could quite happily live as an only dog having his very own people to dote on him and to be the apple of someones eye. Whoever has the opportunity to share their lives with this very special boy will be the luckiest people in the world - he really is one in a million and I will treasure every second he spends in our lives before her moves onto his forever home.

Jimmy *updated 09/05

Meet Jimmy; this lovely chap has only run 8 races and retired a few years ago and is more than ready to find himself a comfy sofa to lie one.

He is 6 years old and a very friendly chap. He is fine with all other greyhound and seems fine with other medium to large breeds too. He has done brilliantly over the past few weeks going to collection and also a large dog show. He has met all sorts of breeds of dogs and is comfortable around them - big and small.

He is a really affectionate chap who loves nothing more than putting his head on your lap for a bit of love!

He walks well on the lead and is interested in what is going on around him but doesn't pull to get at things!

Jimmy does like his own space and a human to himself to cuddle up to, so may well prefer being an only dog with someone around most of the time while he gets used to home life. He could also live with another greyhound or larger dog.

Bert is 5 year old male greyhound with the most beautiful black and white markings. He has only just finished his racing career and is now ready to find a comfortable retirement home.

Bert is a very laid back and easygoing greyhound who seems to be taking everything in his stride.
On his first weekend in rescue he spent the day at a dog show where he enjoyed fuss and attention from lots of people and also met all kind of different breeds of dogs. Bert didn't put a paw wrong and greeted them all politely.

Could you offer this gentleman of a greyhound a forever home?

Gemma *updated* 9/05

Gemma is a 3 year old girl who has only run 5 races. She strained a muscle on her last race so her trainer sensibly retired her. She has no permanent damage and will be fine to live a normal home life.

She is a friendly girl and loves people. Gemma has made massive strides in the past 2 weeks. She is now comfortable around other dogs; she has been to a dog show and 2 collections and has behaved impecably, walking alongside dogs of all breeds without issue. Nothing fazed her.

She is gentle and loving and loves nothing more than a cuddle and a fuss. She seems quite a chilled calm girl who would be fine as an only dog or she could live alongside another medium to large breed.

She would be fine to live with children. Gemma would be an ideal first sighthound.

Jack

Jack
Jack
Jack

Jack is a real looker. He is one big, smart, handsome dog and oozes quality and charm. He takes everything in his stride, he loves to be cuddled and stroked and is very affectionate.

Jack is two and a half years old so he is young and lively but has left his adolescence behind him by now! He loves his walks and gets very excited when he sees his lead.

He was good at his job but had to leave racing through injury when he tore his gracilis muscle. This is healed and gives him no problem at all now but he probably would have liked to continue racing as he is still quite keen. He has spent much of his time since racing in the home meeting children and learning house manners. Jack is looking for a home without cats or small dogs. He would be happy to join a couple or a family in his new home and he gets on well with other big dogs.

He loves gentle stroking and becomes really soft and affectionate when he is getting some TLC and attention. Leonard has spent time in the home so he knows a bit about living among people including children and he knows about house manners. He loves walks and trots along happily being polite to all he meets. He would make a lovely family dog and he is really hoping his future family will read this and come and find him.

Davey *in foster*

Davey *in foster*
Davey *in foster*
Davey *in foster*

If you want a gorgous boy greyhound then read on!

Davey is an ex racer gifted to us by his trainer. He is 2 years old.

His foster home says this about him :-) He is a calm gentle docile relaxed lazy fantastic dog.
He walks really well on the lead, has a resonable recall in the garden, but would need work in open spaces as he loves fast moving things! He loves squeaky toys but when our friends came around with their 5 month old baby he didnt move an inch or show any signs of interest!!!

Davey has been absolutely fantastic with Henry and Lauren (both under 10).

He loves his food and then his sleep; and he travels well. He has been left for up to 6 hours in the company of other dogs with no signs of any destructive tendencies but will take soft toys if left lying around.

Davey is perfectly clean in the house and will let you know if he needs to go out.

He would prefer another dog for company but i dont think he cares what size it is. His play can be quite over enthusiastic so needs someone around to supervise!

He has learnt a few boundaries in his time with us and learns quickly. He will wait for his food and has not tried to eat from the table or steal from the kids.

Has tried his had at agility at the recent dog show but i dont think its his forte although he did like the treats!!!

He is a great lazy lump :-) and it has been a pleasure to foster him.

PS: He positively loves HATS!!!

Jenny *IN FOSTER*
Jenny *IN FOSTER*

Jenny is a beautiful, petite black and tan Saluki x lurcher, and is only about 18 months old. Jenny hasn’t had the happiest start in life, but is making up for that now in her foster home. She has a beautiful glossy coat, and will soon have a feathery tail to match her fluffy ears!
Jenny is a pleasure to have in the house; she is quiet, happy to be left, and extremely loving. She has been friendly with all the other dogs and people she has met, and although she is a little shy to start with, she soon has her waggy tail back!
Jenny is learning basic commands and already walks to heal nicely on the lead, except when she sees rabbits! She also knows how to sit and is learning to recall on a long line. She would like new owners who will continue her training and socialisation. Jenny would like to live with other dogs, or to have plenty of human company if she was an only dog.
Jenny has been good around the children she has met and we think she would be cat trainable too.

Alex:* cat friendly & fostered

Alex:* cat friendly & fostered
Alex:* cat friendly & fostered
Alex:* cat friendly & fostered

Meet the handsome Alex; affectionately known as Mr Spud to his friends!

Alex is only just 2 years old and has not had the best start in his life. When he came to us he was very shut down and disconnected with the world. He has now been in foster with me since January and is finally ready to make his step in a forever home. Where do I start? He is one of the most gorgeous gentle loving dogs I have ever fostered; and it has been a real privilege to help him come out of his shell.

He is good with other dogs, big and small and is safe to live with cats too. He walks well on the lead and it has taken many weeks for him to enjoy being out and about, sniffing and showing interest as normal dogs should do.

Alex still finds new things quite scary, and is quite noise sensitive. He will need a home where you will take things slowly with him, gradually introducing him to different environments and not overloading him too soon.

We have been working with a clicker with Alex to try and engage him more and this is working really well. We now get lots of tail wags, cuddles and kisses, and even some play bows which is fantastic. He is crate trained and this is something he will need to have in his new home as it helps him feel secure. His new favourite toy is his Kong Wobba which he has taken to throwing around the house in pleasure.

He needs a quiet, patient experienced home who will continue with his training. The rewards you will get will be priceless as he continues to grow and develop. He will also need to live with at least one other dog. He can now be left for up to 4 hours without issue, and sleeps through the night in his crate. He is currently living with a 5 year old and is fine with that age children as long as they are not too noisy around him, and he has somewhere to go for some peace.

Whoever gets to have this lovely boy as part of their family will be so so lucky and I shall be very sad to see him go.

Mitch

Mitch
Mitch
Mitch

Mitch is a stunning young smooth coat saluki x, estimated to be around 12 months old.

Mitch is very playful and just wants to be friends with everyone. He has recently spent a couple of nights in a home for assessment purposes. He was well behaved, he settled very well and was clean overnight.

Being a youngster Mitch does enjoy attention, he is very playful and loves human interaction. He is a joy to watch playing with toys and bouncing around on his long uncoordinated legs. Mitch can get very excitable so his enthusiasm will need to be kept in check whilst playing. Mitch is quite responsive to commands and should learn quickly when boundaries are set in his new home.

Out and about Mitch is a typical inquisitive youngster, he wants to meet everyone and sniff everything. He can be a little eager on the lead at times but he is easily manageable and will improve when he gets into a routine. Travelling in a car is not a problem, he settles very well. Given the chance he will have his head out the window feeling the wind in his fur.

Mitch is a lovable, affectionate youngster who will become a super pet with the right family.

Bailey

Bailey
Bailey
Bailey

There's a lovely dog sitting at my feet, whilst I type this about him. Every so often he'll get up and push his nose under my elbow so I can give him a cuddle - he very much likes a cuddle. He loves all humans and has bonded very quickly with my husband and me. He also loves the children and insists on a cuddle from them in the mornings. He's something of a gentle giant, or furry teddy bear, but because of his size, probably better that any children around are beyond the toddler stage. He can be very enthusiastic in his greetings and might accidently bump them. He seems to get on well with other dogs - I haven't approached many when he's out on the lead with us, as having 3 dogs with me can be a bit intimidating, but he approaches them with a waggy tail. In our garden he loves to play chase with the other 2, and there's lots of play biting, and Bailey does rather like to bark a bit when playing these games. We've had him off lead in safe areas and he never strays far, plays fantastically with our other 2, and comes back when you call him, though not necessarily the very first time! He's not a particularly dominant dog, but he has asserted himself over our current 2 when competing for a welcome home cuddle if we've been out, though he doesn't necessarily push to the front for food. Our whippet-type girl is very submissive to him when they play, but she continues to seek him out for a game, even though he can fit most of her neck in his jaws!

Bailey is pretty much clean in the house but might need a few days grace to understand where he's expected to toilet. He is crate trained (and was before he came to us) and settles quite happily there at night or if we're out. When we're around, he prefers to be in our company, asleep at our feet or on our lap on the sofa. He's inclined to follow me or my husband around like a shadow, though over time, is gradually becoming happier to lay still in the lounge and wait for us to come back. He walks pretty well on the lead - not really a puller, though he can try to go and greet other dogs, and at this point, his bulk certainly helps him. He doesn't really have any bad points, but because of his stockiness, can seem to be a bit of an enthusiastic bull in a china shop, and if he gets upstairs to wake you in the norning, you soon know about it!

Because he bonds so closely with his people, he probably could be an only dog, but I imagine you'd have to be careful to begin with that he didn't becom over-reliant.

We will keep him here with us until the right home comes along for him, which is the very least we can do for this gentle-natured soul. He's exactly the dog we were looking for when we got our first hound - playful, friendly and calm in just the right measures.

Our Lurcher lad Yogi, who we have decided to call Yogi Bear because he is ultra loveable and has a fabulous character. Yogi came to us via the pound and he really looks like he has had a terribly sad life! As you can see from his pictures he has a lot of hair missing which may have been caused by a chemical burn! We are guessing Yogi is only around 2 years old and his favourite game is playing tug of war. Sam *now in foster 24/04*

Hi my human mates call me 'Smiley Sam' because I always have a huge smile and enjoy cheering people up. As you can see I am a black lurcher boy; my age, well I am not quite sure but the humans say I am about 2-4 years old , and quite a small boy only 26 inchs at the shoulder.

I love my human friends and would like to live with another dog, I am fine with all other dogs, including tiny ones! Or as long as I had someone to keep me company, I would be fine on my own. I used to live in a home (I think) because I do the 'sit' command when asked, especially if there is a treat waiting. I would probably be a bit too bouncy for toddlers, but would fine living with children over 5 years old in fact I would LOVE to have some playmates!

Sam is now in foster and doing really well, he is clean in the house and has settled very quickly. He will make a great family pet!

Please please don't pass me by just because I am a black boy.

Kelly’s wish list:
A home to call her own
Could live with or without another dog
Could live children just not really small ones, but visitors are ok
Relatively calm house

Kelly is a black female Greyhound, she is 5 years old and 26.5 inches to the shoulder. Kelly has retired from racing and is now looking for her forever home. Kelly would be best suited to living with older children. Kelly is house trained, good on the lead and is a loving and affectionate girl. Kelly has lots of GH friends whom she loves to play with, but also equally happy to curl up and sleep on her bed.

Kelly's foster home adore her and say she is such a sweet girl, who loves a walk then is more than happy to snooze the day away. Kelly has met small children whilst in foster and has been fine with them, we just don’t think she would be happy living permanently with them.

If you can offer Kelly a home, please get in touch.

Nebula

Nebula

This is Nebula; he is around a year old and has come over from Ireland where he was found as a stray. He is a lurcher and a friendly happy little chap; always wanting cuddles and affection.

He has been out on several assessments and has been good with all that he has come across; people, dogs, traffic etc.

He would benefit with living with another dog to show him the ropes but he will be a fast learner. He, like many of our dogs would benefit from some training to help him, but he will make a lovely family pet.

Nebula would like to live with someone around a lot of the time to help him develop.

Dreamer

Dreamer
Dreamer

This is Dreamer; and like her name suggests I think she is really going to be a dream of a dog!
She is an 8 month old lurcher, and the size of a whippet.

I honestly can't fault this little girl. She has been with us a few weeks, and at the beginning she was rather unsure about life, but she has really settled and is a gorgeous all round girly with no real issues. She is calm and chilled out in kennels.

She has been great with all the other dogs she has met, friendly and loving with people. Walks really well on the lead - I can't praise her enough. She would be fine to home with children, as long as they are sensible around dogs, and with another dog or dogs. She is also cat trainable.

She needs to be in a home with someone around quite a bit of the time because she is only a baby and needs time spent with her to bring her on. She would benefit with training classes too.

Join the queue for this gorgeous girl!

Vinnie IN FOSTER/CAT FRIENDLY
Vinnie IN FOSTER/CAT FRIENDLY
Vinnie IN FOSTER/CAT FRIENDLY

Introducing Vinnie a very lovely young lurcher. We think that Vinnie is between 12 - 18 months old. He is very much a puppy and needs an experienced owner who will be able to help him through his late puppyhood and enable him to learn how be a proper dog.

He is a nice natured boy who has had a very rough start to his life and needs boundaries, routine, training, exercise and love. Vinnie is having fun exploring the world and is really looking forward to having a home of his own.

My he is a quick learner! Vinnie is so keen to please and really picks things up quickly. He really will be a fabulous companion for someone who has a space for a faithful friend.

FOSTER UPDATE!
Vinnie decided that a long weekend is an ideal excuse to book a holiday break away, into a foster home. A much needed step forward for Vinnie, kennel life was just far too boring for him.
He's settled in lovely with the 3 resident dogs. They've all enjoyed some free runs in a field together, and Vinnie also has busy schedule with several events to attend. He adores people and has already learnt that the quickest way to get a tasty treat is to sit and look at whoever may have food in their pockets!
Vinnie has met the resident cat and he reacted very well, he just avoids her without getting overexcited and treats her with respect. Vinnie certainly loves to learn and figure out tasks, so he's looking for a new owner who will work with him and enjoy teaching him new skills.

Coogan

If you live a busy, active, outdoor life, and are looking for some good company on your daily walks - look no further than this bright and trainable lad who has loads of potential to become an agility star. Coogan is about two and half years old, loves children and other dogs and could possibly live with a strong-minded cat who won’t be phased by attempts to play. This small lurcher is probably a mixture of Whippet, Greyhound and Collie, so two really decent walks every day and some fun training stuff in between would be the ideal new life for Coogan. He has lots of potential to go off lead with the right person. If this active lad is just what you are looking for, get in touch with us.

Rudi *fostered & cat trainable

Rudi *fostered & cat trainable
Rudi *fostered & cat trainable
Rudi *fostered & cat trainable

This is Rudi, he's a Lurcher boy and about as big as my Greyhound x Whippet girl, so a nice size - not too big and not too small! I think there may be a bit of Collie in there as he's got that look about his face and also he's a very smart boy.

He's been with me as a foster dog for a couple of weeks now having come into rescue (from a pound) as a bundle of skin and bones and with a bald rear end and very flaky skin. We've fed him up and now his coat is almost grown back fully and is a super glossy black, his bones have disappeared nicely and he looks a picture of health. Rudi was quite tetchy around food with my other dogs when he first came here although absolutely fine with humans. I think he's probably had to struggle for food and he just wanted to make sure he wasn't going to miss out again. We estimate his age between 3 and 5.

There is a lot of fun in him and he does love to bounce and spin around in play and can clear our internal 3ft 6ins fence from a standing position. The good thing is that he is very obedient and when called, just bounces back over the fence! Rudi has been tested with one of our volunteer's cats and proved a gentleman so we think he could live with a cat, provided all the usual precautions were taken. He can still be a bit cautious with other dogs out and about but settled quickly when he has been introduced. In time he will be fine to go off lead. He is very much a people dog and proved that at the Tesco collection we took him to, lapping up all the fuss and attention with a non-stop wagging tail. He could live as an only dog or with another dog. He's been left for 3 hours with my Lurcher and two Greyhounds. He's clean in the house and will go to his bed when told. He'll also lie/sit down when told and is an intelligent, loyal little chap. Whoever adopts Rudi will have a wonderful and faithful friend. Could that be you?

Frankie (Francesca)

Frankie has only just arrived with us so please keep up to date as we learn more about her.

What we do know so far is that she walks extremely well on the lead, is good around other dogs and en route to kennels she passed by a home - where she found the sofa in under 5 minutes!

Frankie is a very pretty little 6 year old.

Frankie has now been introduced to a smaller non sighthound - all she wanted to do was play.

Update: April 2012

Frankie has now moved into a foster home where she settled in perfectly from day 1. She loves playing with her toys and adores the visiting grandchildren.

She is at her happiest when people are around and she loves to be included in everything. Frankie will make a fantastic companion and great best friend.

Wow what a stunner this big beautiful greyhound boy is.

Nobby is quite something to look at, he is big and strong and very handsome with amazing amber eyes.

Nobby retired from racing earlier this year so he is now nicely wound down and at 5 years old he is ready to move to the next stage of his life... his well earned retirement.

Nobby is going to be a pleasure to own, he is very friendly, good with other dogs, loves his walks and calm and settled in his kennel.

Maud

Maud
Maud
Maud

Pretty girl Maud has spent her life on the racetrack and has only been used to living inside kennels. Consequently it was a bit of a shock for her when she and her brother Paddy were handed in by their owner when he retired them from racing only a few months ago. Paddy has coped much better than Maud. Maud’s walks are not now quite such the traumatic affair that they used to be although she will tend to pull on the lead. She has got used to traffic but is still a little overawed by some of the things she encounters in the outside world.

Maud is 4 years old; she is delightfully friendly when she has a calm moment. This is not to say that her day is spent being boisterous but her initial contact with anyone tends to send her into “bouncy” mode for a while. Once settled she loves a cuddle and fuss, not to mention the odd treat or two of course!

With firm guidelines Maud will soon grasp what is required of her when living in a home. It will be a pleasure to see her lovely nature blossom.

P.S. Sorry, Maud is not cat friendly

Jet *golden oldie*

Jet is a beautiful older greyhound boy who has been with us for many months and keeps being overlooked. He arrived with two friends back in the summer 2011 and they have long gone on and settled into new lives and are loved and adored.... poor Jet is still waiting.

Jet is ten years old this year and has never had his own home. His trainer kept him after racing but we dont think he had much of a life and came to us quite shy and unsure of the big wide world... Jet found refuge in foster with Ann and Andrew who have took him under their wing and with the help of their own two dogs have been able to bring Jet out and he is now a much more confident dog.

Jet is very ready for his own home - he is looking for people who can carry on the good calm leadership that his fosters have provided, someone with other dogs and a life devoted to them would be a dream.

Could you be the right people to offer Jet his very first home in his tenth year? I hope so - please get in touch.

Enzo

Enzo
Enzo
Enzo

Born October 2005 Enzo finally hung up his racing vest last May. Enzo is a good looking young man and is now in super condition.
In the home Enzo is very laid back and easy. He spent a bit of time in a home with two other Greyhounds and a smallish crossbreed. Enzo was clean in the house and well behaved. He settles well overnight and even enjoys a lay in too.
Out and About Enzo walks very well on the lead until he sees other breeds. This is where Enzo needs a bit more work, with a calm handler his eagerness can be contained. He needs either someone who has time to work on his socializing skills or a rural home where he will be walked without too many encounters with other breeds.
You will remember it was earlier stated he had shared a home with a crossbreed, there is no sighthound whatsoever in that dog and yet Enzo had no problem living with her, so it can be done.
Enzo is very comfortable in a kennel environment where he is exercised in enclosed paddocks rather than lead walked. So if someone had enough space to exercise him on their property, a paddock or even just a large garden, then he would be happy to go without being lead walked anyway.

Enzo will make a wonderful pet and a great companion so please enquire about him today.

Joey

Poor Joey has found himself back with us again and after having waited so long for his forever home to come along. His return was neither his fault nor his owners'.

Joey came to us from Ireland as a stray so we have no knowledge of his background; we just know that he is very much a people dog and is a very lovable boy. He is a smallish (around 25 inches) brindle lurcher, approximately two and a half years old.

Joey walks well on the lead and gets on well with our other dogs on his walks which he loves. He can get excitable if he spots dogs running in the distance and he is not cat friendly.

Harley’s Wish List
I'm in foster now so I can write to you myself : )

Hi everyone my names Harley! I have some exciting news for you…….. I have finally been taken pity on and am now in my own foster home – how exciting : ) To be perfectly honest I’m finding this new life rather good! I love to chill out on one of the nice comfy beds! I am crated at night and when the hoomans go out, and I'm as good as gold! I am house trained too! I love to go for walks and I now walk very well on the lead and pretty much ignore other dogs who are also taking a morning and afternoon stroll!

I twas a bit norty and tried to get on the work surface but I was told off, and I now know I’m not sposed to do it and haven’t done it again so I’m quite a quick learner. My hoomans also tell me I’m lovely because they don’t have to bend down to stoke me, so I’m great if you have a bit of a sore back : )

Also I thought I should mention that I’m currently living with…. A Doberman, Boxer, a GSD xJRT, 2 other Greyhounds and a Whippet! This is like heaven BUT I really would like my forever home after being in GRWE since the beginning of December!

Here’s the info bit…

I’m nearly 4 years old, 28 inches to the shoulder and better behaved than my foster Mummy and Daddys dogs – apparently im one kool super dude – soooo how about letting me on ya sofa? Eh?

Love and licks

Jasper

Jasper
Jasper
Jasper

Jasper is a very special 2 year old lurcher who came in to rescue completely shut down and emaciated age 4 months.

He has lived in a home ever since, but sadly the home is proving too busy for Jasper so we have agreed to find him another one.

Jasper is a very distinctively handsome dog who is quite small for a lurcher. He would love to be a couch potato in a quiet and calm home with another calm sight hound.

Jasper had campylobacter when he was first rescued and although this should not cause any further problems, does mean that he has a sensitive tummy.

Jasper was initially so shut down that he did not wag his tail at a human until age 7 months and it was thought he may be deaf. He was petrified of everything. Jasper has been very brave and has come on in leaps and bounds, but needs a calm, gentle environment where he can flourish.

Jasper is a very lovely boy who is waiting so patiently for the right home. If that is you please get in touch

Sammy

Sammy
Sammy
Sammy

When Sammy came into the care of GRWE eighteen months ago he was shut down, uncomfortable around people and couldn’t cope with other dogs.
Today this 3 year old is a picture of health and barely recognisable from the skeletal stray we first encountered. After some special t.l.c, a programme to help him engage with his new human and canine friends and some serious work on kerbing his over-enthusiastic behaviour at newly discovered playtime, he is now a bright, funny, charming lad; super with people; great with all sizes of dog (when he’s on his lead); does 'fetch' like a pro (he will now drop his toy and wait for you to throw it again) and he recalls to a squeaker. Sammy is great fun to work with when he’s engaged and concentrating – but his concentration does sometimes only come in 10 second bursts! Sammy is now more than ready to take the next step into a home, but it needs to be a supportive one. Sammy is looking for an active home with someone who will provide him with LOTS of exercise and playtime, but also some structure and relaxation and who will enjoy putting in the effort with the ongoing training. Sammy can be a sensitive soul beneath his lively exterior and needs a kind, patient person to be his guide, join in with his infectious enthusiasm and help him keep his composure when excitement gets the better of him. Unfortunately Sammy's 'joie de vivre' means that he is too strong and over-enthusiastic to be re-homed with children and ideally he needs a home where he is the only dog, unless the other dog is very socially savvy and big enough not to be intimidated by Sammy’s size and rough play.
Once he knows you, Sammy is ultra cuddly, loves to snuggle up with you on a sofa (or a lap if it's available) and will make the most AMAZING and loyal dog for someone who is prepared to put in a bit of work. If you think you can offer this happy chappie an opportunity of the new life he so clearly deserves, with some advice and practical help from us, please get in touch.

Harvey

Eighteen months old (approx) and bored to tears in kennels. Harvey would love a home where there is a bit more stimulation in his life.

Harvey is a handsome, red fawn, saluki x lurcher who came from a pound, so we have no knowledge of his background. He is a smashing boy, lovely and affectionate and unspoilt, just waiting for someone to take an interest in him and show him the ropes.

Harvey is 25 ins to the shoulder and a typical slim saluki x build. We will be assessing him more fully over the coming weeks but he seems to be fine with other dogs and sensible children.

Lenny - *** Cat Friendly ***

Meet Lovable Lenny Lurcher.

He is a small boy measuring up at 25 inches to the shoulder. We believe he is greyhound x whippet with maybe a smattering of collie. He is also a baby at only 12 months old.

Lenny has been assessed in a home environment where he was living with 4 young children, a greyhound and 2 cats.

Lenny adored the children and just wanted to be cuddled all day long. When he was not seeking cuddles he was happily playing with the resident dog.

He is extremely food orientated, this along with his willingness to please will make him very trainable.

Lenny can easily live with cats. Due to his young age we would want Lenny to go to a home where people are around a lot of the time.

Enquire about our cat and child friendly boy today.

Alfie *in foster*

This lovely boy is called Alfie. He came into the care of GRWE some time ago and went into a loving home. Sadly for him due to personal circumstances he found himself back in our care. Luckily we found a lovely foster home for him where is getting on really well.

He is 4 years old and gets on with all other dogs and has lived in his previous home with 2 cats. Alfie along with his siblings was born blind but this doesn't get in his way at all!

Alfie is a happy, confident chap, who copes brilliantly with not being able to see - he needs a bit of steering when walked and accepts the odd bump on the nose but most of the time you wouldn't know! He can pull a bit on the lead and is walked in a harness to prevent any pressure on his neck. He is great with children and would be suitable to live with toddlers upwards.

He is very very affectionate and all he wants is cuddles and love, oh and a nice comfy sofa

Alfie is fine being left for up to 5 hours without issue. We think he would prefer to be an only dog or he could also live with a calm other dog. He is currently in foster with a greyhound.

Don't be put off with Alfie being blind, he is a funny lad, full of personality and will be no extra work to a sighted dog. A real gem.

Widget. Tiny whippet x terrier

Widget. Tiny whippet x terrier
Widget. Tiny whippet x terrier
Widget. Tiny whippet x terrier

Hi, my name is Widget and I'm about a year old.  People say that I could be a Whippet cross Terrier of some sort.  I love being around people and having lots of cuddles but can get a bit sad when I move somewhere new and I'm left alone.  Once I know the hoomans come back and I have a routine I'm happier and go to sleep in my crate like a good boy.  I'm nice and quiet over night and likes a lie in.

Because I'm still young I really like playing with other dogs, but my foster mum says I need to learn some manners about meeting new dogs nicely.  I've never been to school either, so apparently I need to do that - yawn - but my fostermum says that I'm very responsive to what she says - what ever that means!

I can run really really fast and love chasing my foster sister around the garden.  I'm not allowed to run about outside the garden yet, as I don't know my name.  I also love toys, especially furry, squashy ones and I gather them up and put them in my bed along with the odd shoe or boot.

Widget's fostermum says:

Widget is a very affectionate little chap and really loves attention, but needs to be made to have time alone so he doesn't become to needy.  He's very gentle and will let you handle him, check his feet, ears etc and you can remove his food bowl with no problems what so ever.  As he's only  just been neutered and was also a stray, when his hormones settle and he's had some training I think he'll be a cracking little fun dog.

Emma is a gorgeous Blue Greyhound Girl. She is 5 years old and around 28 inches to the shoulder. Emma is quite a big girl but is so calm and sweet you hardly notice she is there! Emma is currently in foster with 2 children under the age of 10 and is also living with 2 other hounds. Emma is crate trained and loves the security of her crate. Emma was homed a few years ago but sadly came back to us through no fault of her own. Emma’s foster Mummy loves her and thinks she is an uber special girl. Emma does love to sight for bunnies so probably best if she is only off lead in enclosed spaces! But if you want a lovely lass who is just adorable then please look no further. Emma did cry a little on her first night in her new foster home but has quickly settled into her routine and is now quiet as a mouse.

Emma and Ben (who is also on our website looking for a home) can be homed as a pair but are sadly in foster separately as we couldn’t get them in a home together. So if your looking for an Emma and Ben or just an Emma, please enquire asap : )
