Homing enquiry

To send us an enquiry about rehoming one or more of our dogs, please use the Homing Enquiry form below to tell us a bit about yourself and any key details about your home situation, e.g. any children, other pets, flat or house etc. Then simply add your details and hit 'Send'.

A member of the GRWE rehoming team will contact you to discuss your enquiry. Please be patient and remember that we are all volunteers. Thank you!

The dogs shown here are a selection of the many dogs in our care at any one time across England & Wales. The dogs available for rehoming change on a daily basis and, while we try to keep our website as up to date as possible, the specific dogs shown may already have found their new home.

Please note that our helpline operators are not able to provide more information about individual dogs or where they are kennelled but will act as a referral service, forwarding your details to the relevant rehoming officer who will get in touch with you as soon as possible.

We assess all our dogs carefully and aim to give as much information about them as we can. Please give a thought to offering a home to a boy dog, especially the black ones - they are just as wonderful and trainable as the girls!

Please may we also request that when enquiring about a dog, you provide us with a landline number whenever possible to help reduce uneccesary strain on the charity's resources. Thank you in advance.

Chris..aka Rodney!

Chris is affectionately known as Rodney!!

Rodney is a 5 year old greyhound who has raced over 100 races so has well earnt his retirement.

He is just gorgeous - look at his daft ears and lolling tounge - how can you not fall in love.

Rodney is a very happy boy and he loves life, people, balls, walks and being a greyhound he loves a nice long snooze in the grass!

Rodney moved into a foster home and WOW!! what a super boy - just read this wonderful foster home update..
Rodney has been with us for nearly three weeks now and has settled down very nicely. Linda has been raking out his kennel coat and his coat is starting to look more sleek and glossy. We feel he will look stunning when he has lost the last of his fluffy insulation fur.

He walks perfectly on the lead alone or with Daisy, they got along well from the first day. We have tested him in busy high street conditions and he's fine. People, other dogs large and small and children are no problem for him although, like almost all greyhounds he can be put off momentarily by large vehicles (vans/trucks) passing closely.

We have taken him on four street collections and in every case his behaviour was very good. He made friends with everyone, particularly children, even the very youngest. Everyone who met him loved him.

He has adapted beautifully to domestic life, from the very first morning we have never found any soiling in the house. He has become completely chilled out, sleeping deeply, running and occasional stifled barking in his sleep which is a good indication that he feels completely relaxed in his surroundings. He's a fast learner and knows the meaning of "NO" and in general responds to simple commands. We think he's grown out of his clueless "plonker" phase but we love the name Rodney and he responds to it.

He loves toys and spends a lot of time playing with Daisy's dollies. Occasionally soft things get picked up and moved to another room but with no damage.

We take him and Daisy to an enclosed field where they can both walk off lead. He tends to be more attached to us than Daisy and will only go about 30m before returning, in fact we think he has taught Daisy to stay closer to us.

Featured dog - Sioux

Sioux
Sioux
Sioux

Don't you think she is beautiful?

We think she is a greyhound X staffie and what a gorgeous colour she is!
Sioux is looking for the right person to give her a cosy home for the rest of her life.
Poor Sioux has been badly abused in her early years. She is only 3 but she already knows that there are cruel people out there.

She has been with us for a while as she had lots of baggage to unpack, but over the last six months she has blossomed and become more and more loving and trusting. She would give all her love and trust to that one right person. Is it you?

Sioux cannot be homed with cats or small dogs but she would love to live with another medium or large laid back dog. Although she has never harmed a child we feel that she would be best in a home without children, as she would find the hustle and bustle too overwhelming.

She has lots of energy and would love a big garden and country walks and would be very happy living with one or two adults of her own who understand that occasionally there are things she can't cope with. Sioux tends to guard her home and her paddock against strangers but once she knows you she loves nothing better than a cuddle and a play.

Are you an experienced dog owner looking for a faithful companion? If so Sioux is the one for you!

Theo

Theo
Theo
Theo

Hello my name is Theo, and I am absolutely gorgeous and a VERY handsome boy. You have only got to look at my photos and I am sure you will agree with me.

I am 6 years old and currently living in a foster home where I have been for quite a long time now, and although I am happy (my foster mum is fab), I would LOVE a home to call my own.

There is really nothing wrong with me although but I am quite big, oh and I am a boy, and for some reason that can put people off. I am not sure why though, because I am so gentle and affectionate and don't take up much space.

My past is now well behind me and my foster mum has done a fantastic job helping me to find my way again, and I am more than ready to snuggle down with you on a sofa!

I could happily live as an only dog - I am at the moment - and can be left on my own without issue. But I would also quite like to live with a canine friend so that would be fine too. I walk really really well on my lead and get on with all other breeds of dog. I can even now walk with very small dogs and walk past cats without too much bother. My foster mum says I am a "real gentleman" who she loves having around.
Please don't overlook me as I would really lighten up your life!

UPDATE
Theo is having a 2 week holiday with me while his foster mum is away. What a beautiful dog. He is chilled and laid back in the house; fantastic with my 3 year old little boy. And he is sharing his space now with 2 other greyhounds and just loves the company and on he loves to play too! This dog would bring someone real pleasure. I would quite happily keep him here myself if I could.

Penguin is a stunning Greyhound, he is a big boy, so gentle and calm.

Penguin turns 4 this year, he retired from racing in Dec 09
Penguin has been taking it easy, getting out and exploring new walks, meeting new friends, sampling home life and generally enjoying his retirement!
What Penguin is really missing though is his own family to love him.

Penguin is a really relaxed boy, very sweet natured and he will be a pleasure to own.

Please send us your details so we can get in touch to tell you more about the lovely Penguin

Andy

Andy
Andy
Andy

Andy has to be a contender for one of the happiest dogs on the planet! He always has a smile on and his whole body wags in excitement to be out and doing things!

He was tied up outside a vets just before the Christmas period... luckily the vet took him in and looked after him until a rescue space could be found.

At just two and a half years old Andy is a very playful young man with bags of energy.

He is a very friendly young chap who gets on well with other dogs and simply loves human interaction.

Andy will form a very strong bond with his owner, that along with his love of cocktail sausages and a genuine desire to please will make him an easy candidate for training. Andy is crying out to be loved and he will repay you with complete devotion.

Andy is looking for an active home where he will be given the time and guidance to refine his lovely nature. He just needs someone to lay down some rules and help him to adhere to them.

Already house trained, he really will make a fantastic pet and companion in the right home.

And don't forget - for all your greyhound, whippet, lurcher and other sighthound coats, collars and accessories, visit the all new GRWE webshop!

Mia

Mia
Mia

Mia is a lovely little girl – still very puppy-like even though she is now two years old. Mia is a greyhound who has never raced and found her way into rescue.

Mia is very friendly with everyone she has met, including toddlers in pushchairs and older people. She has met many different sizes of dog – and was friendly to all of them. She loves to play, especially with squeaky toys, and can play a ‘fetch’ type game for ages! She is housetrained, and likes to be with people or another dog for company. She is very respectful to the resident older greyhound in the foster home, and is not aggressive or protective over toys or food.

She would love to be in a busy household with children who can play with her, or would also be happy with another dog for company. She needs someone to continue teaching her the basic commands as she is a quick learner. She is cat-tested and passed! and can probably learn to live with small furries such as Guinea Pigs, and she does not seem bothered by the resident chickens in the foster home.

Penny

Penny
Penny
Penny

Please meet our lovely girl Penny! Penny is a 6 yr old Greyhound girl who finished a short racing career back in 07 - we know she spent a couple of years being a pet in Ireland before arriving with us in late 2009

Penny is in foster care and has been completely clean in the house from day one. She is a cheeky girl who is always up for a game and her bed is often full of her special finds.. she loves to collect!! Penny sleeps well at night, she loves the home and she loves being someones special girl - Penny is so affectionate and likes alot of loving.

*** UPDATE ***

Penny was originally in a really busy foster home, with other dogs and lots of comings and goings, we didnt feel this was helping Penny, so we moved her to a quiet home where she would be the only dog - the changes are quite telling!

**************************

Penny has developed a great deal since coming to stay with us as a single dog. She quickly became much calmer, and rarely pinches things now, and when she does it is a well-chosen stick from our kindling wood to chew on and break up – so no harm done. She has also learned to come to caller very obediently on a whistle command. In fact, she appears to be intelligent and a quick learner who can modify her behaviour and fit in very well, in a gentle, family-orientated way.
A great companion, she is very inquisitive too, following us around to see exactly what we are up to. She greatly enjoys bumming around in the garden with us, and still has occasional bursts of exuberant playful energy, but will usually calm down if required.
She delights in her walks, and is excellent about walking to heel on a short lead, also enjoying meeting other dogs when we are out and about.

Above all, she is deeply affectionate, responding to love and cuddles, and giving lots of sloppy signs of love and devotion in return - very much centred on the people around her and enjoying their company.

We think she is a treasure.

Sid

Sid
Sid
Sid

How handsome is this gorgeous boy? Sid came to us from an Irish pound where he was picked up as a stray in a pitiful condition. He was covered in mange and was a very very nervous boy; clearly whatever had happened to Sid in his past was not pleasant, and he had obviously suffered greatly.

Several months of rehab have worked wonders! Sid is now a shining gleaming example of how a lurcher should look, and is learning how to be a real happy-chappy.

Sid is in a foster home, and making huge progress - this is what his foster mum has to say......

"Sid had a bad start in life and needs a new home that can accept this but help him move on, with confidence, onto the chapter of his life.

It takes Sid a while to learn to trust people but when he does he will greet you with a wag of his tail and given his head to fuss. He spends most of his day asleep on the sofa and currently enjoys the company of a female springer spaniel and a male lurcher. He loves to play outside with the lurcher and is now initiating play himself. He also really enjoyed an off lead play with the lurcher and a female greyhound at our recent greyhound playgroup. He would need a home with confident dogs as he finds being on his own a little difficult. He is happy to be left with his dog friends for up to four hours a day.

Sid gets on well with older children and has formed a strong bond with my 9 year old boy who he happily takes treats from and loves to be groomed by him.

He is learning to respond to his name and is rewarded with a treat whenever he comes. However as he is known as Sid, Siddy, Siddy Bidders and Bidders he has had to learn that all these names mean him!
Sid is happy to go out for his two walks a day as long as he has a warm coat to wear. He walks very nicely on the lead but needs careful introductions to new dogs. He is fearful of them at first but after being given time to settle down he can walk with all different breeds. This is a work in progress and would need to be continued so that he doesn't see all dogs as a threat to him. He is not cat friendly".

Wesley

Wesley
Wesley
Wesley

Meet Wesley. This handsome boy is five-years-old and according to his foster mum, is never without a glint of cheeky mischief in his eyes! Wesley loves playing with his toys, and occasionally carrying his duvet around. He has settled really well into living in a home and sleeps like a log through the night. Wesley is affectionate, a pleasure to walk, good with other dogs and a very quick learner too. He will do absolutely anything for chicken or liver treats, and is learning new commands really quickly. If he’s had a nice walk first, Wesley is quite happy to snooze away for three–four hours on his own. We think he would live happily as an only dog or with existing canine companions.

Roo

Roo
Roo
Roo

Roo is a big friendly boy and is 3 years old. He absolutely LOVES people and just wants to be with them all the time! Presently he is in a foster home with a dominant female greyhound who can be very bossy with him, but he just takes it all in his stride. He's fine with other dogs, but he doesn't think much of cats! Roo walks very well on the lead & we have been able to watch him off lead in a totally enclosed paddock. He doesn't always charge off as you might expect - he just lopes around & enjoys all the smells! He will also play with a toy for a short while & is learning to respond to his name.

He has come on massively since being in foster. He is now able to be left for decent periods without any problems. We think he would prefer to live with another dog to have as a friend, but this could be any breed as he loves all canines!

Roo loves his home comforts and spends a lot of time snoozing on his bed. He will be an amazing companion & great fun to be with - he has such a lovely personality. There MUST be a lovely home for him out there. Is it YOURS ????

11/7/2010 - Update

Roo is no longer in a foster home but back in our kennels where he is a very popular boy with the staff and walkers. This move was purely because he was moved to another rehoming region.

One of our volunteers took him to a local dog show a few weeks ago and Roo was a bit of a star. Although not managing a first he did get two thirds, a reserve and very highly commended. Not bad for a first timer!

Please do consider Roo if you are looking for a friendly companion. He would like to be with another dog and even better with someone who is around most of the time.

He is a really lovely boy.

Beanie
Beanie
Beanie

Beanie is back with us having spent the last two years in a very caring home. His owners really love him but were unable to cope with his stress when they were not around and felt the kindest option was to ask us to rehome him.

Beanie is a very handsome and friendly dog and seemed very laid back when walked recently with one of our other kennel dogs.

We think he would be best in a home with no children and possibly with another dog for company.

Could you give this lovely boy a second chance? Please contact us as soon as possible if you can as he really would prefer to be in a home again.

Pogo
Pogo

Pogo is a gorgeous little male greyhound who has come to us from his trainer after retiring from racing. Pogo will turn 4 in Sept this year.

Pogo is lovely and one of the nicest dogs to walk onlead.. he just trots along on a loose lead, a real pleasure. Pogo has a great character too and is a really sweet and cheeky boy once he gets to know you.

In the photo of two dogs you see Pogo alongside one of his kennel mates... you can see what a small greyhound Pogo is from this photo!

Pogo has moved into a foster home.... this is what he has to say!

I love living in a home with my foster family, I have settled in well and made friends with two other dogs. I dont pull on the lead and will walk by your side or behind you, sometimes I like to nostle your hand with my face and give you a cuddle when walking. I have not messed or had any accidents in the house. I need two short walks a day and the rest of my time i like laying of comfy rugs or will sleep in the garden, I like lots of cuddles and especially have my tummy rubbed. I have a good natured character and am very quiet and calm, however sometimes i try and talk back which sounds funny and with my waggy tail and want to lick you lots. I sleep in my bed on the floor i do not jump on sofas or on the bed I just want to be part of the family and taken on nice walks.
My foster mum is teaching me not to be so excited when she feeds me as I tend to jump up a little up to the food bowl but I am learning the command 'down'. I love my food alot! I like lots and lots of cuddles and will sleep by your feet in the front room. I have run 68 races and been successful in some I have had a lot of races and my last one was in feb 2010, my previous owner suddenly passed away so I am seeking to be part of a new family.
Lots of waggyness
POGO xx

Zico is a super, stunning, head turning mainly Saluki lad, Zico is about 12 - 18 months old.

Zico is full full full of fun and life and bounce and play, he plays and bafoons around endlessly! He loves other dogs and wants to play with everyone, being a young male he can get rather full on and boisterous not for the faint hearted pooch! Zico is only young though and just hasnt had the boundaries in his life... with a strong confident dog he is soon told Oi - pack it in... and Zico will respect this and back off.... until he forgets with his 5 minute memory and comes bounding back - wanna play!!!!!

There is no malice whatsoever in this fun lad, he is adorable and loves a cuddle and fuss.

Zico needs a home where he will have company most of the time, he doesnt like to be left - or at least feel left out!! Zico is being crate trained at the moment and this does help him settle down and relax.

Zico is basically a young, fun and playful dog and he is just looking for the right home to embrace and guide him - it would be a sin to try and squash him.

Please get in touch with your details for Zico

He inspires respect, admiration and love.

Luca has lived in a home for over 5 years and is used to being the only dog. He can be left on his own for a few hours without issue and is calm and laid back in the house, he is also easy to walk.

Luca would prefer to be the only dog in the house and needs a calm and quiet retirement home now. He fully deserves a warm berth in a loving home, where he can call a quiet corner his own.

Ritchie
Ritchie
Ritchie

Ritchie is 8 years old and a black boy who is greying around the muzzle bless him but we still think he is ever so beautiful and hope people will look twice, up his looong nose and deep into the kindest most gentle and loving eyes.

Ritchie has lived in a home, he was a family pet for 4 years before he came to us when they could no longer keep him. Ritchie was in a growing family and has lived with babies, toddlers and teenagers.. he also shared his busy home with other dogs of small breeds.

One of the things Richie really doesn't like much is laminate flooring as he finds himself sliding along at high speed so no laminate for him. At present he is in foster living with 2 other dogs, in fact he LOVES other dogs of any size and shape. He settled in very quickly. I think he would prefer sharing his home with another dog.

He would make a fantastic first greyhound. He is chilled out, laid back in the house, fantastic on the lead - in fact he is faultless really. I can't think of a single weak point!

Dino is a loveable brindle lurcher of three-years-old. He’s a very happy boy who loves to play and will do anything for a cuddle and a bit of ham! Dino had a go at agility at the weekend and picked it up very quickly. He also loves to flop out on the sofa, especially if he can sneak his front paws and head onto your lap, or turn upside-down to have his tummy tickled. We think that Dino would be ok either as an only dog or with other canine company, and we suspect he would be very happy to have some older children to play with in the garden.

Holly 2

Holly is a lovely 6 year old black girl who came to GRWE from a very responsible and caring trainer who wants the best for his dogs.

Holly is a sweet natured girly who has always lived her life in racing kennels. She would do really well in an understanding home that will help her to adjust to a life outside of racing... and settling into living in a house. She spent one night in foster while we were waiting for a space and was clean inside the house.

Like many ex-racers, she has never been socialised with any other dogs, but this is improving every time we take her out. She walks very well on the lead, and is now friendly towards larger dogs but still finds small ones quite confusing.

Holly would benefit from living with an older calm dog and someone around who can help her settle into her new life. She will make a lovely pet given the right chance.

KONG - The Angel IN FOSTER
KONG - The Angel IN FOSTER
KONG - The Angel IN FOSTER

Kong recently went in to foster and his foster Mum and Dad cannot speak highly enough of him (in fact they described him as an angel)!

He is living with two resident greyhounds, a boy and a girl and gets along so well with them that they all share a food bowl at meal times. No matter how hard his foster parents try to kep them apart, they all move from one bowl to the next in unison, quietly chomping their way through 3 dinners! He has been great with toys and food alike and is also living with 3 young children, all of whom he is fantastic with!

Kong is 5 years old and finished his racing career some time ago. He is not only black, he is a true black and his coat gleams with health. He is gentle and loving with humans and adores a fuss and cuddle. He is good with dogs of all sizes and knows the difference between a small dog and a small furry - cats sadly are not an option for him though.

This is one seriously handsome lad with a lovely nature - get in there quick before his foster parents fail and he never leaves!

This gorgeous girl has come to us from a pound in Ireland where she was due to be put to sleep. She is just over 2 years old and has been used as a coursing dog.

She is a friendly, gentle girl, good with other dogs that she has met and loves all people. She hasn’t lived with children but there is no reason to think that would be a problem, especially older ones as she is quite a large girl.

She is very alert, especially in open spaces but walks well on the lead and does not pull.

As you can see from the photos Gaia is a stunning looking dog who will return your love tenfold.

Bonzo is a stunning black & white boy who came to GRWE as a stray from the pound.

He loves his walks and is generally good on the lead, but he can get over-excited when he sees dogs running around, particularly small dogs, so is best walked in a gentle leader. However, he has already shown an improvement in the short time he has been in kennels and we are working with him every week.

He is a fun, happy dog and will do well with an experienced owner who can continue his training. Bonzo could live as an only dog or with another greyhound.

Flash - LIVED IN A HOME

Hi

My name is Flash but I wouldn't mind a different one! I am a very handsome blue boy with white ticking, a really stunning lad and I am in fantastic condition.

I was living in a home before I came in to GRWE but sadly there was another dog in the house that was bullying me and I wasn't very happy. I am house-trained though and can happily live with another dog, just a slightly nicer one please!

I am 3 years old and have been a racer but I am far more interested in my retirement thank you. I walk nicely on the lead after the initial excitement of getting out. I am quite a shy lad but once I know you, I ADORE you and I love a fuss and cuddle. I couldn't do cats though I am afraid, as I think I would find them a little too tempting!

Please get in touch if you want a very handsome, very loveable lad.

Hi all

I am a very young girl, just over from Ireland and I was surrendered by my owners over there. I am only 2.5 years old and haven't had a glittering career or that great care taken of me to be honest and I was very quiet and shy when I arrived.

I have certainly started to come out of my shell however and now really enjoy a fuss and cuddle and actively ask for them. I am not too bad on the lead but I do get quite excited when I see running 'things'. I am fine with small dogs but cats would be just toooooo much for me to cope with.

I am quite a shy girl, so would love a home with either no children or older ones and another dog for company. I am such a yound girl and have lots of life to live and love to give and I am really starting to come alive. I think a lovely sofa to sit on and lots of great cuddles would suit me just fine now please.

Thanks for reading about me. Lulu. x

Hi all

I am about 3 years old and a dot really, probably a whippet X with some terrier in there for good measure. I am only around 22" at the shoulder, so a really easy size. As you can see, I really do adore a cuddle and some attention too. I also have some lovely black through my coat which makes me look very striking!

I came from a pound in the NE but I have proven myself to be a really genuine little dog, with a great love of affection and very responsive to kindness.

It is likely that I have worked in my previous life, so I don't think cats is a good idea for me but I really am a gentle soul, easy-going, good natured and such a nice little lad, you couldn't help but love me.

I am easy to fit on a sofa, in the car and would slot in between any humans on thier bed too, if I was allowed :) I think a home with someone to play with me would be nice but also some humans that will just adore me for the lovely chap that I am. Another dog to play with would also be great, as I adore other dogs!

A four year old black male, Jackson has a truly wonderful nature. He has only just retired and has come to us in super condition, he has a lovely gloss black coat and gleaming white teeth to compliment his Hollywood looks.

An extremely handsome young man, he will get you plenty of admiring glances whilst out and about.

Jackson is a playful chap who enjoys interaction with both humans and other hounds. He is very patient with the smaller dogs, in fact, he is so friendly the young ones always seem to choose him to be their best mate.

Jackson is very well behaved and a dream to walk on the lead.

This young man does not belong in the kennels, he really is going to make a fantastic pet. So, if you are in the South East, why not meet us at the kennels for a walk, I guarantee you'll fall in love with him.

Cassie

Cassie
Cassie

A beautiful white and brindle girl with a very friendly nature. At just 21 months old, Cassie is still only a youngster, she is a happy and playful little girl and very affectionate.

Cassie is currently living in a foster home along with two other dogs, another Greyhound and a crossbreed. Her foster family simply do not have a bad word to say about her.

Cassie is clean in the house, adores company, be it hound or human, and is well behaved on the lead. Because of her young age, Cassie would be best suited to a home where someone is around most of the time.

This wonderful little girl has so much to offer the right home. Please don't miss this oppotunity, she really is a little gem and she's just waiting for your call.

Gracie IN FOSTER CAT FRIENDLY!

Gracie IN FOSTER CAT FRIENDLY!
Gracie IN FOSTER CAT FRIENDLY!
Gracie IN FOSTER CAT FRIENDLY!

Well would you look at ME!

I am a young lurcher, probably a Saluki X Whippet and I am quite the prettiest little thing (although I must admit I didn't smell very pretty when I first arrived!)

I am approximately 10 months old, about 23" at the shoulder and came over from Ireland to find fame and fortune in this new land (a nice sofa and food would be a GREAT start). I was still very thin when I arrived but I am putting on weight and will soon be ready for a nice new home. It is fair to say that I am not quite 'house' proofed yet but I am currently in foster and am learning about what life is like in a home and doing very well so far.

Being a Saluki X Whippet pup, I am pretty active and I need lots to stimluate my body and mind, otherwise I may have to find things to occupy myself with :) I will also need training classes to help me learn about coming back when called etc.

I am in foster with another lurcher girl and a cat and we all get along great. I am 'in training' with the cat and so far, so good.

All being well I will be very ready for my new home very soon and can't wait to get out and about to meet lots of new dogs and humans - all of which I love!!

Aero & Wispa - Come as a team!
Aero & Wispa - Come as a team!
Aero & Wispa - Come as a team!

Hi!

We are cute as buttons and mad as a box of frogs and utterly, utterly gorgeous! I am Aero and I am the boy (the strawberry blonde) and Wispa is my sister, she is the white one with a grey patch over her eye.

We are both 12 months old and we are brother and sister and we must be homed together.

We came from a pound in the NE but little is known of our history, however we have been under assessment at GRWE and it is fair to say that we are ADORABLE!

We love humans, I (Wispa) spend more time on my back wriggling around wanting my tummy tickled than anything else but we both adore fuss and cuddles. We will need lots of mental, as well as physical stimulation as we are bright as buttons and will probably get in to mischief if we aren't kept occupied! We think cats may be a bit too much tempation for us but older children would be great fun!

GRWE have promised to home us as a team, as whilst we are confident on our own, we do adore each other and get on really well together and it would be a terrible shame to part us.

Get in touch NOW! We won't hang around for long!

Blythe

Blythe

Blythe has been retired from racing for some time now and has been well looked after but has maybe had a little too much food and not enough exercise. She has been doing her workout videos though and is getting back into shape and enjoying her new figure.

She is 7 years old and is a steady, level headed girl, although she can get a bit excited in open spaces if she sees wildlife. This is understandable given her lack of exercise but she is getting better and learning to walk well on the lead.

She is friendly with other dogs and loves attention and cuddles. Could you give this happy-go-lucky lady a chance to enjoy life in a loving home?

Millie IN FOSTER CAT FRIENDLY

Millie IN FOSTER CAT FRIENDLY
Millie IN FOSTER CAT FRIENDLY
Millie IN FOSTER CAT FRIENDLY

Hi all

I am a very shy little girl and the sister of Gracie. I am a 10 month old Saluki X Whippet but I am not as brave as my sister and it is obvious that life has not been kind to me so far.

I am around 23" tall and still rather too thin but I am gaining weight quickly in my foster home. Whilst I am wary of humans still, this is improving every day and I am learning that they can be kind. I will need lots of space, calm, kind people around me and at least one other dog to help my confidence continue to improve. I am cat trainable and can learn to live with cats no problem.

I need a calm, patient home who will help to continue boosting my confidence and introduce me to new things gradually. I must live with another confident dog but I think small children would just be too much for me at the moment, as I am easily spooked. I will need training classes and help with recall etc.

I have had a hard time, I am utterly gorgeous however and I will be a complete heart dog one day.

Ruby- in foster & housetrained

Ruby- in foster & housetrained
Ruby- in foster & housetrained
Ruby- in foster & housetrained

What a stunning looking young lady Ruby is and only 4 years old.

Ruby was gifted to us by her trainer because she was set upon by another dog during a race and, as a result, she has lost her confidence to compete. This does mean that Ruby does not like being rushed at or crowded by "over friendly" dogs when out and about. She is lucky enough to be living in a foster home at the moment with 2 other dogs where she is well behaved and clean and walks beautifully on the lead.

She is looking for a home as an only dog or perhaps with another greyhound who is happy to let Ruby “wear the trousers” – like lots of very beautiful women, she knows it and knows how to tug on your heart strings with just one look.

She is positively thriving in her foster home and is ready to move onto her forever home. She has found it upsetting leaving the safety of her racing kennels but is desperate to be loved and be part of someone’s life. Are you prepared to give her that home where she can have a chance to really settle into life as a much loved pet greyhound? An experienced home that would be happy to set a few boundaries so she doesn’t take advantage whilst she is learning her position in the home would be ideal.

Her foster mum says "She is a joy to be around – affectionate, sweet and, quite frankly, irresistible. She will do anything I ask of her and more besides - a total star".

Oh and she asked me to say that she loves pilchards, sardines and cooked veg please, but not raw carrot – yuk !

**UPDATE**
Amazing what a little time and patience can do. Ruby has learnt that other dogs being up close and personal is ok really - can you spot her? - she is in there honestly - I promise !!!

Donal

Donal
Donal

This smart looking chap has had a lucky escape as he was due to be put to sleep before we took him in.

Not making it as a racer, Donal had become a little overweight and unfit but he is now shaping up and cutting a very fine figure indeed.

He has just turned 4 years old and is a lovable, solid boy who is getting used to walking on a lead and meeting other dogs.

He seems to be taking everything in his stride and will make a great addition to any family.

Jessie

Jessie
Jessie
Jessie

Meet Jessie. She is a lovely little 1 year old lurcher.

Jessie has had rather an unsettled past, and was handed into us from a very chaotic home where there were absolutley no boundries for her.

She is now in a stable and calm foster home where she is doing brilliantly. She is living with 2 other dogs; she loves to play and is fine around food and toys and is very willing to share! Jessie is also very intellegent and picks things up very quickly; a really fast learner. She would excel at doing something stimulating like agility or obedience.

When she came in she had not been walked much on the lead, but she is coming on well and is always enthusiastic to say hello to any doggy friends she meets!

We think Jessie would be better with another dog to give her confidence. She loves to play but is also happy to curl up and sleep. Although she is fine with children (and has been around her foster dad's neice and nephew who are both toddlers), it would be better if she was not placed with very young ones, as she could find their unpredictability a bit frightening. She is a little nervous when she first meets you but sooon comes round. She is very affectionate, loves a cuddle and just needs stablity and boundries and with that you will be rewarded with a gorgeous friendly girl, who will be great fun to own.

Cleo

Cleo
Cleo
Cleo

Cleo is just 20 months old and came to us straight from her trainer, but she has never raced.

Cleo is a beautiful girl, black with ginger brindle stripes across her face and body and she is very petite. She is just learning about life outside racing kennels and has been in a home for several weeks. She is house trained, gets along great with all dogs and humans and is a generally great dog with very few issues.

Sadly, Cleo's house mate has taken exeception to her being there and is getting quite stressed about having to share his space and his Mum. We have therefore agreed that she should find a new home, where she can make a life of her own and be her own person.

Cleo is house trained, walks well on the lead, is great with all dogs and humans and is a lovely, friendly girl. She has adjusted to home life very well, having been quite uncertain to start with but will still need help settling down in a new home, as she is a young girl with little exposure to life on the outside!

If Cleo is your girl, please get in touch wth us as soon as possible, she won't hang around for long.

Violet

Sweet Violet !
This little girl (and she is little) is awesome - it is difficult to convey in the photographs just how beautiful and unusual she is - she looks positively ethereal - just like she has stepped off the side of a pyramid - a blue greyhound with green eyes - stunning!

She is only just 3 years old and was found wandering scared on a very busy road - she escaped being put to sleep just in the nick of time. She is extremely loving and affectionate and would make a devoted pet. She adores her food, even though she is only little, and will happily wolf down whatever you give her. I am not sure which is her favourite time - walkies or dinner :-)

She has been on home assessment and was well behaved and clean. She was very happy to mingle with all the other hounds in the house but needs to build up her socialisation around other breeds. She is not naughty, just curious and needs to be given the opportunity to learn.

As you can see she has taken to resting her long beautiful nose between the mesh on the kennels when we are talking to her - this is soooo cute - and she knows it - because she gets extra attention from all the volunteers when she does this - a clever girl in the making I think :-)

Holly

Holly
Holly
Holly

Holly is six-years-old, bubbly, bright and affectionate, very fond of her food, and the proud owner of one of the wiggly-waggliest tails in the world! She is learning all about playtime with toys, and she will play nicely with other dogs.

Sadly Holly was born profoundly deaf, but we will happily work with her new family to teach them how to communicate with her using hand signals. She’s picked these up very quickly and is very good at pre-empting what you need her to do.

We’re doing a lot of work to help Holly build up her trust with people again, she’s clearly had a rocky path to this point, but her foster Mum is doing a wonderful job with her. In the right home, Holly may be ok as an only dog (she’s on her own in foster and doing well), although she will only be able to be left for a couple of hours at a time; she has previously lived with another dog and that may also be an option for the future.

Holly has lived with cats and we think she would be fine to do so again in future. Unfortunately we don’t think Holly can live with children, as her deafness makes her too easily startled.

Do you have room for this beautiful girl on your sofa?

Rock

Rock
Rock

Rock has not raced for over a year and came to us from his owner/trainer who due to ill health was unable to give him the care he needs. Because of this Rock is a little overweight and not as fit as he should be, however we are sure it won’t take long to get him back to fitness again and he’ll soon be able to go for longer walks without looking quite so exhausted!

Rock is nearly 6 years old. He is like a big fluffy bear at the moment. We know there’s a super shiny black coat just waiting to emerge once he’s shed the fluff! He is a lovely happy boy and enjoys meeting everyone.

What a beauty! This stunning looking greyhound girl is Glorious and glorious she surely is.

At just over two years old she didn’t make the grade as a racer so was given up by her trainer. She is a very strong girl and is a little nervous of the world around her at the moment but is learning fast.

Glorious is good with other dogs that she meets but would not be able to live with cats.

If you want a girl that will turn heads then Glorious is for you. She will need a little work to help her adapt to her new life but when you are as beautiful as this you know you’re worth it!

Tony

Tony
Tony
Tony

We think Tony is Grrrrrrrreat (only those over the age of 35 will understand that!)

He is 4 years old and finished his racing career in October. Tony's owner handed him over to rescue to find a new home for him.

Tony is quite a big lad and has a big heart to match his stature. He is a lovely friendly lad, who enjoys his walks in the countryside with the dog walkers. Whilst we have had Tony with us we have noticed that he does like his own space though. He is fine walking alongside other dogs, but in smaller more confined spaces, like a car for example, he doesn't like the close proximity of other dogs, and will grizzle at them to let them know that!

Tony can't go to a home with cats, and will need careful introductions to small dogs as so far in his life he's only ever met greyhounds.

This lad is a super boy, who will make a really wonderful, faithful companion. Please don't overlook just because he is big, black and likes his own space - he is just lovely - just look at that face!

5/4/10

Tony is settling down and enjoying life more now. He is finding out that life outside of racing kennels isn't maybe as scary as he thought. Tony is a real people dog, and really enjoys some one to one attention.

Tony enjoyed his trip out to the local park over the Easter weekend, and stopped for a cup of tea in the cafe there - whilst his Auntie Fliss was drinking tea, Tony took the opportunity to lap up as many cuddles as he possibly could! We think he enjoyed himself judging by the photos!

Luey

Luey
Luey
Luey

Luey is a striking looking lurcher lad of about 6 years old. Luey has one of the silkiest coats we have ever seen in such a stunning blue colour with tan markings... he really is very beautiful.

Luey is a very loving lad, he loves people and enjoys the company of everyone, but he is also fine to be left for a few hours. He is clean in the house and will ask to go out if he needs to. Luey loves the home comforts but will get off furniture when asked to and lie on a comfy dog bed if required.

Luey is a bright spark, he has been living in a foster home and has been clicker trained, Luey is a very motivated and responsive hound and he is a pleasure to interact with.

Luey loves to have some play time with toys, Luey's favourite game is to run round the garden with his toys - the football being the fav at the mo! Luey would love a doggy playmate.

Luey has learnt to be polite when meeting dogs outside, he does get worried by new dogs but once he gets to know them he loves them. Luey is looking for a confident leader in a steady home.

If you are looking for an interactive stunning and very rewarding hound - Luey could be waiting for you to call!
